"Why
a gameshow"
We wanted to give the five year run of LMASM a break....the park has
been interested in us producing a gameshow....we had a bunch of props left
over and the experience of writing/hosting gameshows ("Splash Water Sports,
Meal-Lionaire)....why not!? We actually scrapped the abstract concept
"Missing Mystery" for this show which was guaranteed to be more fun to
produce on the tight schedule we took on with Frightfest 2002.
So we took the fun of gameshows with the chemistry of LMASM, and the theme
of Frightfest and created this all new original production. We found
a niche, because PSP proudly produced several original gameshows soon afterwards
including "Frontier Feudin'"
and "Splashbucklin Scalleywags"
"Who
designed the games?"
Eric Boucher, the writer of the script also came up with the game concepts...the
first major step to the show's writing process so that the story could
link them all together semi-logically in the "Master Plan"..
The first Skeleton dig ("final exumes") was the first one thought up
and was used to pitch the show.
The Slime game came about during a brainstorming session regarding
how Eric "really wants to use that glob stuff, ya know the gross snot stuff
that goozes, but is easy to just peel off your hands" and kept talking
until he came up with the confusing slime transfer which still confuses
the cast themselves.
The goblin toss was an easy adaption of a game Eric created when he
revamped "Splash Water Sports". Instead of water balloons, we used decorated
plastic balls; and instead of bare hands, we used fishing nets.
The trivia game was almost scrapped, but the buzzer system was already
purchased so we kept it in. It makes the show longer, but more complete.
The door choosing was stuck in Eric's head as the perfect ending to
the new show from the start...mostly because we had the LMASM wall crash
set piece left over...so we recycled the "Monster to Life" idea for a fun
ending.
In 2004- The show format was revamped to include team captains and
new games:
-
The Trivia game becomes a sleaker bonus round.
-
The Slime Transfer was replaced with a new "Art of Science". The
execution of the "dropped shipped" items was a collaboration of Eric with
Jeff Tingley and Grey Seymour.
-
The Slime becomes the potion points and the team captains get to play in
the gooey grossness!
-
Plus a few other surprised and new comedy!
In 2006, the show moved to a new larger outdoor stage and was revamped
again.
-
The Trivia bonus round became more "Match Game" style where the contestants
write down their answers to reveal.
-
New Goblins and nets and major re-scripting revamped Game 3.
-
Plus of course some more new comedy and other surprises.

"What
other inside jokes are hidden in the show?"
Begore and Cegore's messes are mentioned early on. Degore and Cegore were
mentioned in LaughCrafters:
Holiday Show "Mayhem Mistletoe" sketch along with heads "accidently"
exploding. (Degore and Begore are expected to someday meet on-stage
and perhaps overthrow Slappy Von Slime!)
Sometimes Slappy still introduces "Brian his technician" even if its Jenny
in the booth since Brian was the technician for 2 years before becoming
Degore.
Altough much of the comedy is brand new, some of the lines were rewritten
to the pace and comic style of Brian Lepine for Degore.
The Big Books of Business replace the 2002-2003 Slime's Biggo Beakers of
Business.
"Are you ready for Rocks!?" is a pun on the graves, but also in homage
to Brian's "Bobby Blades" Epenbexx character.
Other inside jokes/references:
Slappy's intro music is the infamous "It's not unsual" instrumental...an
influential part of LMASM.
Begore and Ceegore are mentioned early on in a reference to Matt and the
other multiple assistants . Degore and Cegore were mentioned in LaughCrafters:
Holiday Show "Mayhem Mistletoe" sketch along with heads "accidently"
exploding. Degore and Begore actually met on stage in a live LCH show.
In 2006, we decided that someone in the audience would be Zeegore. Our
friend Megan always wanted to be Meegore or Shegore.
"Hordework" is also mentioned in PWP. Grizz and Begore/Degore go to the
same school.
Dr.Slappy developed the "secret forumula for Burger Barn", the source of
DT's lunch in LMASM. There is also a hamburger and ketchup from LMASM buried
in the gravestones.
There is a "Golden Snitch" from Harry Potter mixed in with the "Goblins"
There is a blatant real plug to PSP's hit "Monster
Mash in MovieTown". The "Nosefuratoo" bat even has furry hair and large
eyes like the Mmash character. (and similar to Marvin Bat from PWS2).
Tear for Fears' "Everybody wants to rule the world" was the perfect lyrics
needed for the master dance plan in the spirit of LMASM and this new Mayhem
Mission. PSP tech, Brian Lepine, was also a major 80's music fan.
The Potion point containers used to keep score are labeled to go to 11
"...because its 1 higher than 10, isnt it?"
The 2002-2003 Slime Buckets are labeled "Biggo Beakers of Business" and
"Secret Formula-caution:do Not Eat!" as Begore does anyway.
The Slime came in 156 individual containers and 6 different colors...until
we mixed it into the lovely "green" we have now. In fact some of the empty
slime test tubes and containers were re-filled and used on the potion point
cart.
Old slime is recycled and put into "Hangar 18's Alien Autopsy" scene in
the park's Roswell USA along with the new Nightmare Island science outpost.
Eric B.Scary slips in that the "witch medals may be discontinued. may be
substitued for ghost", in fact there is no witch medal ever, only ghost
and the other 3.
Much of the music is instrumental karaoeke versions of "Rocky Horror".
"Touch me" including Magenta saying "more more" is used for the gross touch
Slime game. The current "Art of Science" game is a "Rose Tint my
World" edit. The Goblin Toss is actually done to a Ska version of "Sing
Sing Sing", one of our favorite classic swing songs often heard in
RRN
and LaughCrafters.
Begore/Degore asks if he can still come to the castle on "Bingo nights",
a reference to the Bingo craze cast members Matt and Tommy enjoyed during
the summer.
Begore's final answer is a poor french translation to PWP and PWS (and
P.Thomas Sheep, PhanTom Sheep..duh).
The post-show announces that "Ghost Patrol is evacuating this lab" in reference
to PWP getting ready
to occur on the same stage.
The obsession with Goggles is inspired partly to Eric and Zippy's high
school chemisty teacher Chuck Horn, who actually had a goggles song.
The Gravestones in the first game are labeled "MORT"
and "DR.BONES". Mort's
reads several dates of his deaths and Dr.Bones' simply says "Dr.Bones:
Disco King....Dig It!"
"How
long is the show?/ where and when can I see it?"
The show lasts approximately 25 minutes. It premiered as part
of Six Flags New England Frightfest
and returns each fall It is performed 4 times a day each weekend thru
October. This show is also available for outside bookings
and can play to its full length of 40 minutes depending on the event. If
you come visit the show, make sure to say "Hi" at the end and mention the
