First Episode of The New RRN aired on WSC-TV: March 1996
The New RRN was the first WSC-TV program ever aired on cable OFF campus and did so on Continental Cablevision in nine local cities on Wednesday, April 9, 1996 at 9PM.

The Map

The map that is seen on the set behind the anchors and at the closing credits was created by Eric Boucher and Kevin Zabawa with addtional coloring by Nicolle Leney and Michele Oulette after forcing themselves to stay locked within the WSC SGA room for over EIGHT HOURS and only a 2 days till it would be needed for the first show.

This is our version of NBC's Today show's "window on the world"
Jon Gill is usually the one playing with the toys and puppets in the window that is between and behind the two anchors. When he is on camera in the studio, Kevin Zabawa or Greg Boucher usually fill in.
Some of the items that seem to frequently appear: The sheep (duh!), Kermit, Homer, Elves, R2D2, OJ's missing glove, Clinton, Plants dancing, the millenium falcon, snakes, and a leaping Shark.

The Story of the Phantom Sheep
Once upon a time when Eric and Kevin were about to start their first season with Riverside Park, they were called in early to learn a puppet show. With no prior experience and only 2 rehearsals, Puppetworks 95 opened 5 days later. Since puppets were still being constructed for the last song, some spare generic sheep puppets were dug up and used in their place. The puppeteers instantly fell in love with their faces and found them extremely funny for some reason. When the other puppets were finally ready, the sheep were made sure to be kept around the theater to make surprise cameos in other numbers.

A story was then invented of the Phantom Sheep, who holds a grudge for being taken out of the show and therefore haunts the theater making such surprise visits. Two other sheep were also kept with The Phantom Sheep whom were dubbed Godzilla Sheep for his enormous relative size, and Whiner, who had a less evil look on his face than the others. Whiner was the only one at the time whom Eric and Kevin gave a voice to while the other two just "Baa'd".

The sheep were such a hit in the park that in subsequent shows they were always given their own numbers to sing including "baa-baa-ran" and a whole flock was created to perform "We Go Together" in the WRKS Sock Hop. A year after the initial script was proposed, "The Spooktacular" was produced at Riverside in the fall of 1996 and starred the Phantom Sheep who kept torturing a friendly witch with his echoing "Baa's" as young children would yell out "it's the phantom sheep!" and ask to meet it after the show. Even now, years later PWS has become apopular part of Hallowscream for Premier Parks.

After producing the first episode of The New RRN in the spring of 1996(yes, before PWS was first staged), Eric and Kevin asked the managers of Park Studios to borrow a sheep for the next show. They gave us Godzilla since he would never fit into another show again and another sheep smaller sheep that resembled Whiner with smaller arms and was also never going to be used again. The smaller one appeared in episode 2 in an interview with Annie and both sheep appeared in the window afterwards until Godzilla Sheep was almost destroyed by a dog leaving the smaller to be THE Phantom sheep and only sheep on the show (and somehow EVERY show after that!).The Phantom Sheep is still often requested and makes appearances at Kareoke and WSKB, where he appeared once on the pulsating cow show. And of course, he still is a stock character and driving comedy force in PuppetWorks. (However, the actual original RRN PS, now often sits atop the coat rack in the PSP office)

The Phantom Sheep has become our trademark, mascot, and name of our production guild because of the inspiration it gave us to achieve some of our first major goals in entertainment.
