AGAWAM, MA-The Phantom Sheep Players (PSP),
comedy troupe based in Western MA, are proud to announce their return to
Six Flags FrightFest for a eighth season of creating shows in the park.
This year also celebrates Southampton native and co-founding troupe member
Eric Boucher’s 10th Halloween season with the park.
Last fall, writer/director
Boucher created four brand new productions for the park’s expanded Frightfest
package, which the troupe is excited to re-stage in 2003 with a few new
changes and improvements to keep audiences coming back. Popular family
shows such as “PuppetWorks PhantoSeize” and “Mayhem Mission” each includes
new scenes and music as most of the original casts returns. “We’ve
been lucky enough to have such rewarding opportunities, especially with
Frightfest that supports the growth of our production troupe,” says troupe
member Jeff Tingley. ” We honestly have a blast and are fortunate to love
what we do by providing entertainment”. The troupe’s first
“musical” entitled “Monster Mash in Movie Town” is returning for a third
year with new choreography by Nicole Fuller of Feeding Hills. The
“Verdict of Sorcery” witch trial and “Showdown in Ghost Town” hanging are
also back to offer slightly more gruesome sights and dark humor respectively
for older audiences. Each show plays up to 4 times a day.
“PuppetWorks
PhantoSeize” stars the Phantom Sheep character himself along with a large
cast of freaky friends. Over 28 puppets are performed by three puppeteers
in a 22 minute performance. The show is stocked with silly spoofs and parodies
on everything from “Men in Black”, “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”, and even
ABBA. Boucher supplies the voice talents for many of the shows including
“PhantoSeize” along with fellow troupe members Tingley and Tommy Lynch
of Springfield. “Puppetworks always has a place in our hearts,” notes
Boucher. “It allows us to do what we love by each playing several characters,
a bit of satire, and entertain audiences of all ages on many levels at
once”.
Over the summer, for
the first time PSP also had the opportunity to create custom summer entertainment
for the park as it proudly presenting two new midway comedy shows. “On
Location” allowed audience members to play summer blockbuster cliché
roles as a comic duo of PSP trained cast members directed and produced
their faux movie. “Frontier Fuedin’: Gameshow of the Wet & Wild
West” contained soaked saddles, crazy cattle, and plenty more audience
interaction. After a successful season of over 525 performances,
both shows are expected back for summer 2004.
During the month of
October alongside their over 300 total performances scheduled for this
Frightfest, the Phantom Sheep Players will go back into intense rehearsals
with a few new faces for their improv comedy and sketch show entitled “LaughCrafters”.
They enjoyed performing several improvisation workshops and a few shows
professionally over the spring and summer including “Academic Studies Associates”
and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” both at UMASS, Amherst. “LaughCrafters”
will be able to be seen regularly during the winter months at Capos Café
in Easthampton where the troupe enjoys honing their skills and presenting
new material.
The Phantom Sheep Players
are available for hire to perform and conduct workshops in comedy improv
among their other stock shows. You may find out more about them on
their website http://www.phantomsheep.com or visit them at the park weekends
until November 2nd.
